Ubuntu, the African philosophy meaning ‘I am because you are’ and Plato’s remark drawn most likely from Pythagorean doctrine, ‘all of nature is akin’ spoke deeply to me on a contemplative walk through our garden last summer as ‘Echinacea purpurea,’ one of our beautiful coneflowers called to me. Upon being with her and photographing her, I felt a great oneness with her.
We each affirmed the other in a harmonious way underscored by the values of kindness, generosity, appreciation, caring, and compassion reflecting the historic African philosophy and way of being.
