As the industrial age heaves its final remaining breaths all the while spewing pollution into the air night and day, I experienced a moment of hope when photographing aging steel mills raggedly lined along the edge of Lake Ontario, Hamilton. Midst the bellows of pollution arising from the blast furnaces, for a brief moment of time, the pollution cleared and a flock of Canadian Geese rose as though from the mills and flew gracefully up, up, and away. They spoke to me of phoenixes rising from the ashes, heralding the dawning of a new era.
